The Day of the Big Crinolines...

... or the Great Crinoline Day, depending on which word in Stora krinolindagen that you stress, I thought it was the latter, but Big Crinolines make more sense, when you think about it. Anyhow, it was an event that took place the 13th of June that I helped to organize, and it was a great day, even though it has taken me some time to write anything about it. The era of the day was 1840-1860, and it took place here in Linköping. I'm very glad that there were so many that thought it would  be worth the trouble of travelling to come and join us, and hopefully they enjoyed the day as well. We had a picnic, and of course I brought all plastic containers, but I was running out of time, so I used what I had at home. I'm sure the victorians would've too, if they'd had plastic. There was also a dance recital by Folkungagillet that showed us some 19th century dances and held a short lesson with us. About my outfit I'm a bit disappointed with myself for not completing an en...

My Saturday

Yesterday I realised that lately, I've spent my weekends doing nothing but grocery shopping, cleaning and doing dishes, and Thursday I also did a big pile of laundry (too much clothes in wardrobe will do that to you, since you don't have to do laundry every week to have clean clothes to wear, but I got fed up), so walking past the kitchen yesterday I said "screw that, tomorrow I'll do something enjoyable" and so I did. By myself, sadly - Girlfriend is involved with the university's student theatre group sewing costumes and they are working hard up until the premiere next Saturday, but we were at least able to meet up and eat sushi. On my own then, I visited some of the thrift shops in town, that's my kind of day, but I think I got a bit carried away with the spirit of enjoying myself. Mostly with the pattern-buy though, it's not actually my size, and of course the person who had it before me cut the pieces out, but I couldn't help my self. I...

My empire dress

I thought I'd add some pictures of projects already finished, and I'll start with my empire dress. I made it for a ball hosted by Folkungagillet, they hadn't set a precise year, but called their ball Empirbal (so a regency ball). We danced the dances, we ate the food, and most of the attendants wore clothes from this era. I suppose they drew the line around the 1830's, so it was a wide time span. I'm not much for dancing, I was mostly there for the clothes and the food (which was... interesting, very well made, but maybe not my new favourite food). Without further ado, here it is.  I chose a green fabric, because I really didn't feel comfortable in white.  I used a drawstring both in the cleavage and under the bust, and to cover up the drawstring underneath the bosom I used the gold ribbon. Underneath I do have a chemise and stays. I tried wearing the gloves, but it drove me crazy, so for most of the time I was bare-hand. The atrocity! One must not artens a ...
